Starfish

This is a beginner class typically for children ages 1-3 years old. Children will work with a teacher in this class, they may wear a flotation device if desired. Songs, rhythms, and games are used to teach foundational concepts such as blowing bubbles, floating, freestyle kicking and “big arms”. The introduction to becoming confident and excited about swimming, and having their face in the water, is the goal for this class.

Level 1

Children will be a part of a small class but must be able to participate without a flotation device, assistance will be given while learning new skills. The goal of this class is for children to become more independent in the water, and to begin practicing different swimming strokes. The goal is for students to swim freestyle 2-3 body lengths on their own. Students will also be encouraged to float, tread and try backstroke independently as well.

Level 2

Students should be able to independently use a kickboard. This class focuses on students practicing to take their Moss Spring Swim Club pool test. This means that the goal will be for students to be able to swim the length of the pool by the end of the week. Students will be able to float and tread for longer durations, students will also practice submerging in deeper water.

Level 3

The class focuses on students learning new strokes. Students will learn and practice the kicks associated with a variety of strokes. The side stroke, the dolphin kick, and the breaststroke kick, are a few examples of the new exciting skills that students will learn. Students will also begin practicing diving at this level. This level becomes a foundation of learning a variety of technical swimming skills and new strokes outside of freestyle and backstroke.

Level 4

This class focuses on building strength and endurance as students are introduced to lap swimming. A teacher will work closely with students to help improve their strokes as they learn to swim longer lengths and become stronger swimmers. Students will build on their knowledge and skills with swimming all four strokes. Students will also be introduced to starting their swimming from a diving position (standing and/or off the starting blocks).
